It is with a sharp intake of breath and a leap of faith that we strip back to our swimwear and head to the pool side or the beach for that annual baptism that marks the start of summer. So, anything that adds sparkle or creates a bit of eyeball diversion can be a blessing.
To that end, the Chanel owned jeweller Goossens has tied up with sister swimwear company Eres, to create a collection of accessories that will glimmer and amuse in the sun. The star piece is a multi-functioning 24 carat gold chain that is hung with a series of charms including an enamel pineapple, a parrot and smooth pebbles of rock crystal, a signature material. The chain can be worn as a belt, a necklace and doubled up as a bracelet or a choker. To note: Eres has streamlined palm and pineapple motif swimwear to make the most of the tropicana trend.

A couture jeweller and goldsmith, Robert Goossens struck up a creative relationship with Coco Chanel in the 1950s. He designed the Byzantine and baroque style pieces she adored alongside wheat motif mirror frames and interior objets that decorated her apartment and the boutiques. His son Patrick heads up the maison today overseeing the studio team of carvers, smelters and enamellers. Each piece is conceived using the lost wax technique resulting in highly intricate pieces with texture and character. “My father borrowed from the Byzantines, the Etruscans, the Celts and Egyptians. He missed all those influences together and came up with something different,” says Patrick Goossens of the bravura cocktail of styles.
